EMDR Specialty Areas:
EMDR THERAPY CONSULTATION FOCUS AREAS:
Refresher and Support of EMDR Therapy Concepts
Whether you are a newly trained clinician or took the course a few years, you may feel overwhelmed at times or wish for a review after completing the weekend one and two basic training. Consultation offers the opportunity to review the AIP case
conceptualization, the 8 phases of the protocol, the three prongs of EMDR therapy, and an overall review of material presented during the basic training. There is an abundance of material presented during the EMDR basic training, and having continued support through consultation can assist with your confidence and ease of integrating EMDR Therapy into your practice. In addition, more advanced EMDR clinicians can feel stuck at times with complex cases and can benefit from the support and feedback consultation offers. Dawn is passionate about assisting clinicians on their EMDR Therapy journey so that it can become an integral aspect of your clinical practice.
EMDR with Children and Teens
Dawn has been utilizing EMDR Therapy with children and teens since the completion of her EMDR basic training in 2009. She is trained in several EMDR Therapy based child and teen protocols incorporating age appropriate play therapy techniques into the AIP model and 8 phase protocol. Dawn also believes in the significance of movement and body based strategies that can be woven into EMDR Therapy. Dawn is currently an EMDR Institute Facilitator in Training with a focus on children and adolescents.
Integrating EMDR Therapy and Sandtray Therapy
Dawn began training in Sandplay Therapy in 2008 and has continued her training in Sandplay and Sandtray since. Dawn has been combining these therapeutic modalities over the years and has developed her own protocol and strategies to assist clinicians incorporating EMDR Therapy and Sandtray Therapy. Clinicians are offered guidance and support on how to integrate Sandtray Therapy into the AIP model and all 8 Phases of EMDR Therapy. Utilizing both therapies is effective for healing from trauma,
specifically attachment trauma and developmental trauma. This technique is beneficial for children, teens and adults.
Attachment Trauma
Ms. Wilcox is certified in the Integrative Attachment Protocol for Children (D. Wesselman, S. Armstrong and C. Schweitzer). This model helps parents learn to respond with effective trauma-informed strategies, strengthens the security of the parent-child attachment relationship, improves children’s behaviors and emotional regulation, and decreases reactivity related to traumatic memories and current triggers. The IATP-C model can be used in conjunction with Sandtray therapy to enhance the healing work necessary for children who have suffered attachment wounds as well as improved relationships for the entire family. Dawn is an approved IATP-C Consultant.
Consultation hours focused on the IATP-C model can be applied for clinicians seeking IATP-C certification.
